Uber Direct questions
Straight answers, before you book.
How is this different from Uber Eats?
Uber Eats is a marketplace: Uber sells your food on their app and takes 30% commission. Uber Direct is just the delivery rails. You sell on your own channels with commission-free online ordering and pay a flat fee per delivery, typically $7 to $10, for the driver. Same fleet, none of the marketplace toll.
How much does each delivery cost?
Price varies by distance and demand: typically $7 to $10 for a standard 3 to 5 mile delivery in a major metro. You decide what to charge your customer; the difference is your delivery margin.
What if a driver doesn't show up?
Uber Direct's own reliability covers 99%+ of pickups. If a driver no-shows, the system auto-redispatches; if it fails entirely, the order is refunded. You're never on the hook.
Does my restaurant need a special insurance policy?
No. Uber Direct drivers are covered under Uber's own commercial auto policy during dispatch. You don't carry the delivery liability.
Can I use Uber Direct for catering orders?
Single-vehicle catering, one car, one drop, is fully supported. Multi-vehicle catering for larger orders is in beta; ask your account manager.
What if my city doesn't have Uber Direct?
Use Eatsy's in-house delivery instead: your own drivers, on Eatsy's dispatch software. Some restaurants run both, with Uber Direct as overflow during peaks.
Same drivers, none of the commission.
